Love the ending tone. It made a smooth connection to JT and this live version of his beautiful composition - where I loved seeing summer Steve Gadd doing his in-the-pocket thing. As for the illustration - you got those stretcher bearers’ facial profiles, the curious guards in green and the random tourists all just right.

Thank you for all your thoughts: text, music and illustration! Wow, quite a pocketful.

Perhaps not seen. Viscerally experienced. Remembered in your body!

That I do, VG. And in spite of all that happened, it is still a magical place in my mind.

So very sad after all that to not have seen the ruins. Who knows maybe you go back in your lifetime still.

TBT, I doubt it.

By all accounts it seems to have been Disney-fied.

The man who got you off that thin ledge is

A hero - I hope he reads your story and identifies himself to you !

How I wish I knew who he and his companions were. But, sadly, I do not.

An angel on your shoulder or carrying your stretcher. For some reason, the first song to pop into my mind is Bonnie Raitt's "Angel from Montgomery". Not really a rodeo, but an angel from wherever!

Angels have appeared more than this once in my life. There remain two more in this story.

In a choice between seeing Machu Picchu and seeing healing and recovery--well, it's a no brainer, isn't it? You have your own inner Machu Picchu, Bex.

I do! T-Y, JGM, I have wondered about going back but decided against it since since the sire has become a “tourism destination”—with all that implies. When I was there it was beautifully empty—pristine and quiet .
