So good to take in this deeper story of what forged your mom into who she was. I recall her being someone who did not hold a grunge. Glad to have touched and felt her alive path.
Thank you, Barbara! From a stifling beginning, she made a remarkable life for herself. It's almost impossible to find a picture of her as an adult in which she is not smiling. I wish I had asked more questions.
Thank you, Frederick. She was a remarkable person. You will get to know her better. If you want to read a bit about my father go to my first four posts at: www.instagram.com/rebecca100words/ He was truly one-of-a-kind.
My mother wasn’t born here and I heard no prom stories growing up. I never was invited to a prom. My niece Sarah went to her prom with a group of friends. Enlightened. No one had to invite her. Is it still a thing?
I didn't go to a prom either. It was Vietnam War protest time. Not prom time. Nila went with her best friend and 5 other girls. Year 2000 Stuyvesant. I think it is still a thing today but it's often more about statement, e.g., gender, than conformity.
Beautiful story… currently traveling cross country and in Oklahoma. Feel
a tad like I am in a foreign land but the folks kind and keep their space. I am definitely the outsider and don’t fit in but consuming the landscape and sunset.
My mom was sent off to her aunt’s from the farm of Minnesota. The dynamics a mystery but definitely impacting her life!
A poem to all missed mothers💕 thanks
Honestly, this story deeply touches my heart.
Thank you, SVM. What a sweet thing thing to say.
oh becky i’m crying. of course you were a good daughter. the best of kind. devoted half-wild and not a copy of anyone.
Oh, thank you. I was probably all you say and at least half-wild.

Such a rare and wonderful woman she was, and you've inherited so much of her courage.
That she was.
You were definitely a good daughter, Bex--the best!
I hope so. (Thanks for your confidence!)
Oklahoma - I grew up on the musical so that was alwys my idea od the place. I still remember all the words,
Not so sure about the state but the song is swell!

Ha! What serendipity! Though maybe not "better", OK must be at least more diverse as the only three people i know there now are gay. Take care!
